Montessori Children’s House has a ratio of 1:8 which enables as much individual attention as possible without taking away the child’s independence. We have tremendous respect for the child’s natural desire to learn and we instill our ratio to promote and encourage their desire.

The teachers act as facilitators of the classroom, not lecturers. This allows for natural exploration by the child. This permits the teacher to observe the child to see where his interest lies and can create lessons specific to that child. We believe that all children progress at their own rate and not at a set schedule so lessons are given according to the child’s abilities not the schools. These are two reasons why a small ratio is so vital in a Montessori classroom.

We also believe that children learn through all their senses, not a select few. All lessons are tangible; the only “rule” is before the child may work with the materials/lessons it must have been introduced to the child by a teacher. This ensures the proper use of the lessons and materials.

We are open year round. During the summer months we usually schedule swim lessons with a nearby facility for a change of pace. Otherwise our full Montessori curriculum is followed.

Drawing and fun coloringKindergarten

We offer an affordable half day and full day Kindergarten program. Please check with the school for the most current information as scheduling may change due to enrollment. Please note: afternoon programs are only offered to the Kindergarten student’s at this time.

Daily Schedule

Our work cycle begins at 8 a.m. and lasts until group time. The entire classroom comes together at group time for creative movement, songs, and stories. During this time is also when we may have guest speakers and performers. Recess immediately follows group.

In addition to our work cycle the Director and Master Teacher prepare monthly themes and Family Projects. Both are posted on the parent website and in the front lobby. We encourage everyone to participate as they are a lot of fun and we are constantly amazed at the children’s imagination. The children also present their projects during group time.

Snack & Lunch

Montessori Children’s House provides a morning and afternoon snack. The children are shown how to serve themselves and how to clean-up after themselves after a meal or snack. Lunch is brought from home and is served at Noon. We welcome you to join your child for lunch if you are able but please note that our space is limited so that if you do wish to join your child, please give us notice so that we can make accommodations for you as most seating is child sized.

Quiet Time/Rest:

All day children are required a Quiet time period of at least 30 minutes. If a child is not sleeping at the end of this period he/she is permitted to do quiet activities/lessons at the other end of the school.

Field Trips

Montessori Children’s House plans about 4 – 5 field trips a year. We love to see performances and plays, visit local museums, and farms. Field trip notices are posted in the front lobby and on the parents website. As always, parents are welcome provided there is seating available at the location we are attending.
